After running for many years both with music, without music, with audio books and podcasts; I have come to the conclusion that I prefer my leisure runs to include some kind of listening activity. In fact, there is rarely a time when I am not listening to something. I listen to something while I do dishes, fold laundry, shower and write this blog post. So when I say I am a connoisseur of all types of listening devices, I ain’t bluffing.
I first tried wireless headphones a few years back and immediately decided that I preferred them over traditional headphones. [Especially, since iPhone unfavorably nixed the headphone jack]. Regardless, wireless headphone are by fair superior to traditional headphones in the sense of simplicity.
When given the opportunity to be able to review the Jaybird Tarah wireless headphones I was elated. So far they have been out for a few different runs and a couple workouts. I am not disappointed.
Straight out of the box these headphones have a sleek and minimalist look. The material feels durable and high quality. One thing I noticed about the wire harness is that it is soft and flexible; this keeps it laying flat and in place during runs and workouts. In edition, there is a “speed cinch” that allows you to tighten or loosen the harness as needed.
The ear buds have soft “ear gels” that rest comfortably in your ears. Included in the box are three different sizes of ear gels so that you can find your most comfortable and appropriate fit. Each ear bud is labeled R or L to indicate right and left. Honestly helps to avoid any confusion; especially when swapping out the ear gels.
The box also includes a removable shirt clip. This clip can attach to the harness and can anchor an ear bud to your shirt if you are running/working out with only one ear bud in place. I honestly love this little feature. It seams so simple; but anytime I run outside I always leave and ear free. This helps me to stay aware of my surroundings.
Pairing these headphones with Bluetooth is simple and I encountered no snags. I simply turned the headphones on, found “Jaybird Tarah” in Bluetooth settings on my iPhone and connected. Then I was ready to go for a run!
Running with these headphones was very enjoyable. The headphones stayed in place perfectly during my run, the harness did not catch or snag at all on my clothing, even when turning my head to check traffic patterns while crossing side streets. I found the quality of sound to be remarkable and I could easily hear the podcasts and music that I was listening to during my run.
I love the shape of the ear buds and they way they fit into your ear. Because of this great fit no wind can whistle around the ear piece. This is something that drives me a little crazy with another pair of wireless headphones I have used.
I am notorious for running in all kinds of weather. Rain, snow, slush, bring it on. The Jaybird Tarah headphones are marketed at being weatherproof. Meaning you can take these headphones without even if its raining. I have not tried these headphones in adverse conditions. But, that day is sure to come.
Battery life is 6 hours for a full charge. The headphones charge quickly and when you turn the headphones on they will tell you the percentage of battery left on that particular charge.
Additionally it is important to note that these headphones, just like many of the other jaybird headphones, pair with the Jaybird app. This app lets you customize your sound experience; which is something that is unique to Jaybird headphones.
Let me know if you have any questions about this product, but hopefully this review will help you decide if this product is right for you! I am going to continue to enjoy all my runs and workouts with these headphones!!
